BCS Event Listener with SQL DB

Hi,

We have an custom SQL database. We are storing some additional user profile properties. We have planned to connect and synchronize SharePoint profile store using BCS. The requirement is, if a property is changed in the database, it has to be changed immediately in the profile store. I was just thinking if we can use BCS event listener service in this scenario. Can SQL send the notifications back as ATOM feeds or JSON objects to the SharePoint 2013 endpoint? Can I write some custom code to perform some additional action in addition to updating the property in UPA?
