SharePoint 2013 Workflows: Why is the Initiator the System Account?

Hey,

I have learned about the workflow manager and the user profile sync and all the permissions that need to be in place before creating a SharePoint designer workflow. I have created a workflow and deployed it to my instance of project server.

But,

Whenever I create a new project, the workflow fails with a status of Cancelled and a 401 message. When I look at the Initiator for the workflow (under Additional Workflow Data), it is set to the System Account. Obviously this fails with a 401 because the System Account cannot initiate workflows in 2013.

But,

I CREATED THE PROJECT! Shouldn't the initiator of the workflow be me? Wouldn't this be the same as me creating an item in a list? I should be the initiator of the workflow.

So, Why are my workflows running under the system account when that is not the account that created the project? Is anyone experiencing similar issues with list workflows?

Any help is appreciated. I wrestled with the workflow manager, I fought with the user profile sync, and now this.
