Formating inserted lists

I built a list and inserted in a page with other information. When I built the list I created a customized view which allows me to determine the width of the columns, however once I insert the list the width of the columns changes completely and all the formating I had done to the original list view is lost. How can I change the column width of an inserted list? Thanks!!!
