Reading a Workflow's Internal Status

I am building a solution using two SharePoint 2013 workflows working in combination. The main workflow sends emails to reviewers, and the secondary one sends overdue emails if there has not been a response from a given reviewer within a specified time period. My concern is, if the main workflow aborts for whatever reason, the secondary workflow will generate overdue emails until someone terminates it. Before rolling this out to my users, I need to find a way to read the “Internal Status” from the “Workflow Status” page by using the secondary workflow so I can generate an email to the support staff informing them that an error has occurred. So far, I have been unable to locate a solution that does not involve creating code. The system I’m using is running Windows 7 Enterprise, with Service Pack 1 installed. Does anyone out there know of a way to read this status using a workflow?

Any help would be appreciated… thanks
