Alternative of timer jobs in SharePoint online?

Hi,

How can we achieve same timer job behavior in SharePoint online using auto hosted apps. As we know that there is no scope for timer job in SharePoint online then what will be the solution??

Workflow might be a workaround for this problem but how can we achieve the same when we want some action to be triggered in different time intervals?
